I understand that this must be a distressing sight to see, but for Emily, this has been reality.
Emily was born in 2002 with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. This plainly means that the left side of her heart does not work.
She has had three operations, one at 2 days old, one at two years old, and one at four to correct this, but when she hits her teenage years Emily will have to be opened up again and have a new heart plumbed in. Emily will be around 15, the age where looking beautiful matters.
But at 15, all Emily will be focused on is being alive. There are not enough hearts to save Emily.
Emily is eight now, and is not worried about what is in store for her.
Emily is a very brave child, but she’s also my very brave sister.
So please support the National Donor Registry by reblogging and help Emily fix her heart.
